Cab Day

I hate cab day.  Let me start off by saying morning commutes by cab are not a thing I do often.  But somehow they happen at least once a month.  How you ask? It could be from hitting snooze one too many times, or a late bus, or general D.C. traffic.  See somehow on Tuesdays and Thursdays especially, people completely run out of fux to give and decide they want to drag ass to work.  Which translates into ridiculous traffic.  Cab day is one of those reminders that despite your best efforts shiite could still go wrong around you and you have to persevere.  Even if it means a $9 cab ride plus tip.  

Keeping it red, today I have on Ruby Slippers by CoverGirl Queen Collection.  The light doesn't do this color justice because it does have a metallic look to it, almost sparkly

Slow Grind

Back on the blogging grind and I wanted to highlight some new lippies I've purchased over the last month.  I'll phase them in slowly I promise.  I've been trying to get on a slow grind as of late.  If anyone knows me well they know that I'm a procrastinator, sloth is my drug, "I'll do it later" is my official slogan, and last minute is my middle name.  I find that when I'm trying to get a whole bunch of things done at one time (like fundraising for my fellowship which you can donate to here, if you like) I eventually get tired out and drop it all.  I'm bad with things like that.  IRL the one thing I can say I consistently gave effort to was studying for the bar.  I mean it worked, I passed, but I don't want to do that again in life ever.  You hear me universe, not ever! So I'm going to try getting on a slow grind instead.  Hopefully it'll help me get all the things I need to get done and keep me off of Buzzfeed.

Better Red than Dead

So I actually had time today to do this blog post but I couldn't find the right lighting until this afternoon. Aside from its classic allure there is something about red that always looks good. Like seriously. You can dress it up or down and it always looks great.  Especially with a new red lipstick like I have on today red will always have you out here feeling yourself. When you can't decide on the perfect shade and going bare is not an option, reach for your red.

Fall Off to Come back

In 2007, fresh from her craziness Britney Spears performed at the VMAs. It was a trainwreck. If you've never seen it or have forgotten what it looks like here you go. I've seen three-legged dogs move with better grace. Despite her best meaning intentions, Britney had not made it back from rock bottom. In 2008, she actually got it together and blessed us with Circus which debuted #1 on the Billboard 200.  She had truly made her comeback. I have fallen off for the last two weeks. It's not because I wanted to, it's because I'm doing actual work at work now and don't have the time. But I'm ready for my comeback, and it's not going to be a 2007 Britney comeback. More work at work means more opportunity to prove I'm the shit like the voice in my head tells me that I am. I can do the work, the blog, the side gig, the fellowship, and be a doggy mom. I fell off so I gotta come back y'all.  And I gotta come back skrong!

It's favorites week!! Today I'm doing favorite reds!!

My favorite red is Bite Beauty Creme Luminous lipstick in Tannin

This is my favorite red lipstick because it is moisturizing without being shiny and the color pay off is really great. It's a blue-red lipstick that goes well with my warm undertone and it's very versatile for day or night. 

Marie decided to be fancy in her favorite red, Ruby Woo Matte Lipstick by MAC 

Marie said Ruby Woo was her favorite red because it's bright, long-lasting and her beau loves red lipstick on her.

Tell Me It'll Last Forever - Info Post #11

I always make the mistake of putting on my lipstick before I eat breakfast. And it's usually a bagel or something that makes my lipstick messy. If I don't lose the color to eating, it's to the regular wear of the day. You can hold onto your lip color with a few steps that are easy to do.

Quality Lipstick

I know the idea of $20-$30 lipstick sounds crazy, but honestly, the higher the quality of the lipstick the longer the wear. Less reapplies also means you can hold onto that tube longer which means your getting your money's worth.

Priming

If you haven't gotten into lip scrubs, do it. Majestic Roots Naturals makes a great one that I love. Exfoliating your lips gives your lipstick a nice clean debris-free place to flourish.  Using a primer, especially when wearing a matte lipstick also helps.

Liner

Using a liner to line your lips and also fill in your lips can extend your lipstick's wear time.  This works really well with lipsticks that have very strong colors.

It's a Mix of Vanity and Being Haitian

Those words are not mine, they are Stephanie Lilavois.'  And she's right.  See I left my house this morning sans earrings.  Sans.  I usually leave 2 pairs of earrings in the bathroom after I wash my face so I can throw them in and be on my way.  I don't know what I was on this morning but I left my earrings at home, which means I definitely went to the store and got some.  When I was a young girl I hated earrings, and dresses, and shoes.  My mom was/is a very fancy woman, and when I would leave the house without any earrings in, she would say you look like a boy put some earrings on. Disclaimer: My mother is from Haiti, where in her time there was no discourse on patriarchy, gender roles, or the like.  Me talking about her words is not an endorsement of them. Thanks.  That being said, I'm so indoctrinated by her words that I have to have earrings on or I feel like a bum.  It's remarkable how are parents words can impact us, even when we try our hardest to forget them.  I remember being a kid thinking I'll never be like my mom and I can tell you I'm probably more like my mom than she is.  Mothers' Day is coming up and while I probably won't get to see her this year, I know I can put on earrings and think about her.
